KIMONOVEMBER: The Ultimate Kimono Excuse

Writer's picture: Shona McCarthyShona McCarthy

Every year, around the world, the global kimono community shares a special event in common: Kimonovember! It's a month of celebrating kimono and different ways of wearing it, and it's open to anyone who wants to join in!

Participants often enjoy making many posts to social media of their kimono related activities. This means that at any give time, you could open up Instagram, Twitter or Facebook and search the tag #KIMONOVEMBER and see the amazing outfits people form for this wonderful event! The highlight of the month is Kimono-No-Hi, which is another hashtag you can follow on social media to see more beautiful posts. On this day in particular people love to wear kimono and take photographs. This time comes with its own special app which I discuss in another post!

Kimonovember and Kimono-No-Hi are important in that they encourage people to take an interest in kimono cuture. Traditional kimono artisans currently face a crisis where fewer people are buying real Japanese kimono. By raising awareness of kimono as a garment, it's possible to bring more attention to traditional Japanese artisan techniques and hopefully keep them from going extinct.

It may be too late for an order to arrive with you now, but you could order kimono and related garments from my online store to participate next year!

If you've been finding my blog posts entertaining or helpful, I hope you'll consider making a contribution of your choosing to my PayPal pool, through the banner below. I'm currently saving up so I can repay my student debt as quickly as possible, and unfortunately the adds in this blog aren't paying off. Forming these blog posts takes time, and while I take great pleasure in it, I still find I need to make a living. So, anything you could give would mean a lot to me: paypal.me/pools/c/89Ab7XEzQ9
