Geisha Party Online!

One of the great pleasures of travelling to Japan is having opportunities to see real live geisha perform and to even be able to talk with them and ask them questions. Within Japan, you find many option for seeing Geisha in person which range from free to the very expensive. I have blogged about this in the past.

With the advent of Covid-19, many Geisha houses have had to become more creative in how they make money. Restrictions and fear means that many of their usual customers have not been hiring them so often. But this means that you no longer need to be in Japan to see Geisha live!

With this being the case, there will be a live event on the 24th of October 2020. The Geisha you will meet through this event is a Maiko of Gion Kobu, a very famous troupe of Geisha in Kyoto. Since this gathering will happen close to Halloween, the Geisha have elected to dress up in Setsubun costumes. This means they will be dressed something like traditional Japanese monsters and mythological creatures! Attendance only costs 3000 Yen, something like $30USD. Speaking of Halloween, I have been releasing Japanese Halloween themed mugs in my online store in the lead up to Halloween. Each features a piece of classical Japanese art by Yoshitoshi, depicting something supernatural. On the other side of the mug designs, I include a summary of the myth or folk tale behind the image. They make great gifts for all occasions, but with Christmas on the way, you might want to think ahead.

The above pictures show just a few of the mug designs. They start out black but change colour when you put hot drink with them. So they can be a fun surprise for guests. Reading the mugs together can be a fun activity for family!
