Where there is a historical location in Japan, I'm likely to want to visit. Asakusa is one district off of Tokyo that is rich with history and Japanese culture, but I have not been able to visit yet.
I recently saw this documentary by NHK World on Asakusa's Nakamise Street. Due to Covid-19, it is much more empty than it usually would be and local businesses have struggled. But ordinarily the streets would always be packed with holiday-makers.
It seems that the streets has been specially built to feel like a small-town old market street, like one would have seen in ancient Edo. But it's planted right in the middle of a moderately built up area of city. This means that you have the sensation of being far from urban life, when in truth you are close to everything you would need in a day. I'm time-poor as I write this.
